Happy Birthday Dead Man: Warren Zevon
Singer, songwriter, firebrand and razor-sharp iconoclast Warren Zevon would have been 65 today, had he not tipped over almost a decade ago. Those who are unfamiliar with his wit and gift for a hook should start with "Excitable Boy" (1977) and proceed from there. Despite dying of cancer, Zevon kept a good attitude to the end, putting a picture of a skull on his last album cover. When asked by David Letterman during his last appearance on the "Late Night" for any insight into life and death, Zevon offered this classic: "Enjoy every sandwich." Here is a rare live performance clip of Zevon doing "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" at the The Palladium in New York in 1980.
