Lost In The Trees

Here's "Red," the latest video from North Carolina's Lost In The Trees, from the upcoming record "A Church That Fits Our Needs," coming out March 20 on Anti-Records.

For the past several years, Ari Picker has led the remarkable project called Lost In The Trees.  After journeyman's work in local North Carolina bands, Ari studied composition at the Berkeley School of Music, and shortly thereafter Lost In The Trees was born.  Ari recorded most of the band's first record, "All Alone In An Empty House," in his living room, making a lush, unflinching look at the pain of childhood and the loss of his mother.  Now Ari and the band are gearing up to release a second full-length album, "A Church That Fits Our Needs," due out on March 20.

If past is precedent, the new album will still have the same solid pop sensibilities and wondrous, swirling string and vocal arrangements.  Ari and company are working in a time-honored tradition, and the best of their work stands up to those, like The Left Banke and The Beach Boys, that preceded them.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Ari and producing a live performance of "Walk Around The Lake," a song from the band's first album, in 2010.  Have a look.
