Seun Kuti: His Father's Son, But His Own Man
Seun (pronounced "Shay-oon") Kuti is the son of afrobeat founder Fela Kuti, and inherited his father's band Egypt 80 at a very young age. Many of his band mates are original members of the group, and are older than Seun by some decades. Egypt 80 continues to perform Fela Kuti's work, giving many fans a chance to hear these songs for the first time. This is not mere historical preservation, though: Seun turned down an offer to play his father in the Broadway musical "Fela," and his latest album, last year's "From Africa With Fury: Rise" was produced by Brian Eno.
