Baghdad explosions kill at least 69 people
A series of 16 blasts occurred throughout Baghdad today, killing at least 69 people and wounding scores more. The attacks come after the last U.S. combat troops have left Iraq, in addition to major sectarian strife between Sunni and Shiite ethnic groups. The attacks come also after the Shiite government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has said that current Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi ran a hit squad five years ago that targeted government officials. The blasts mainly targeted Shiite areas and could potentially be the work of Al-Qaeda.
