Palestinians Submit Statehood Bid at U.N.
The President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, official submitted his request to the U.N. Security Council that Palestine be accepted as an internationally recognized state. The move came against the wishes of U.S. President Barak Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with the U.S. actively working against the move in the Security Council to stop the Palestinians from getting the nine votes necessary for the measure to pass which would necessitate the use of the U.S.'s veto.
