UN chief demands Security Council action on Syria
Ban Ki-moon has said that the UN Security Council should act on the situation in Syria, saying that it had reached a point of "seriousness" with over 5,000 dead in the unrest since March of 2011. The Syrian opposition claims to have near 40,000 fighters under their command and a special council is being setup to handle defections and coordinate strikes. France has also called out Iran for violating the UN weapons embargo by shipping arms to Syria.
