The a member of the most prominent Indian political family, The Gandhis, has praised Anna Hazare's hunger strike against corruption but has said that the strike ultimately undermines democracy. His proposals call for the creation of an independent watchdog that would be able to investigate members of parliament, the judiciary and even the prime minister. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made an emotional appeal for him to end his strike and said that reforms should be implemented as well. Rahul Gandhi, a member of the ruling party in congress, has said that he agrees with the message that Hazare is advocating put thinks that his tactics are dangerous and undemocratic. Some of Hazare's supporters are also diverging from him as they say that they have finally reached a point where the government will co-operate with them and that prolonging the strike is becoming less about common sense and more about ego.
