Australian parliament passes mining tax

Australia's parliament has passed a new law that mining companies will have to pay a 30% tax, in a bid to distribute profits from the country's mineral wealth to more parts of society. The bill had been debated for over 18 months and would not hurt investment in mining in the country which has large mineral deposits.
