China increases rural poverty limit to $1 a day

The Chinese government has changed the threshold for being in poverty in rural China from 55 cents a day to a $1 day (6.5 yuan). The move is expected to give millions of people access to government benefits next year and is a part of President Hu Jintao's program to combat poverty, particularly in the country's rural western provinces.
