India court convicts 31 over deadly 2002 Gujarat riots
The 2002 riots in Gujarat were some of the worst inter-religious fighting between Hindus and Muslims in India's history since independence, as over a 1,000 people were killed. The dead were mostly Muslims who were attacked by Hindus after a train fire was blamed on them. Those who were convicted of the murders face the death penalty.
