Protest in China prompts chemical plant shutdown
Tens of thousands protested in the port city of Dalian, located in northeast China, for the removal Fujia Dahua Petrochemical Company which had stated that it could possibly spill toxins into the local water supply after a typhoon had breached a dike. The protesters marched on the Dalian city hall and though officials initially said that they would only move the company out of the city, they later gave into demands that the plant should be closed down immediately. The protests have been heavily censored in China, with the mention of the protests removed from most media outlets and censored online. Many residents are skeptical that change can actually be implemented as the Government owns a substantial stake in the chemical company.
