Russia to Extend Life of Aging Reactors
Russia has decided to extend the life of all Soviet era nuclear reactors to forty five years, including eleven that are similar to the Chernobyl reactor which underwent a meltdown in the 1980's. The move by Rosatom, Russia's state run nuclear monopoly, was at odds with a number of scientists at the International Atomic Energy Agency's meeting in Vienna and is also in the opposite direction of states like Germany and Switzerland who have said that they are planning on becoming nuclear free in the future.
