Thousands of ordinary Chinese have helped artist Ai Weiwei pay his tax bill of $2.3 million, donating $958,000 from over 22,000 people. The artist received the bill after he was jailed in April and has seen increased harassment from the authorities since his release as police now follow him and can be seen outside of his compound in Beijing.
