3rd Gorilla protest in Bratislava

On Friday, the 10th of February, the third Gorila protest took place in Bratislava. It has been reported that "only" 3000 people attended. We were on the SNP square in the center of the city with our camera. Several speakers and public figures took the stand about the issue. Fedor Gal, personality of the Velvet Revolution was also scheduled to speak, but he withdrew shortly before the start of the protest. At around 4 PM, even though the temperature was well below zero, people of all ages and different generations started gathering with signs, and there was a revolutionary spirit in the air. According to our estimates, there were between 5 and 7 thousand people there.

The Slovak media mostly reported on the questionable background and financing of the organizers, and their alleged connection with the Slovak Christian-Democratic Party or the 99% party. Others speculated about the goals and realistic possibilities of these protests.

The organizers themselves are strictly against associating with any political parties or financial groups. Although, they were supposed to meet President Gasparovic and Prime Minister Radicova, both of these meetings were postponed due to the amount work connected with the protests.

It is not known at this point what the intended purpose of the meeting was. Albeit, the organizers introduced their "list of demands", but these demands were confusing and the public reaction was inconsistent. The only point that was met with general applause and the unanimous acceptance of the crowd was the demand for the immediate adbication of Chief Justice, S. Harabin.

At the end of the protest, demonstrators were cheered on by a "delegation" of activists from the Czech Republic. The next Gorila protest is scheduled to take place on Sunday, the 19th of February. The organizers plan to march to Penta's headquarters, which has recently added a fence and strengthened the security of the whole complex.
