Speech of Tom Nicholson

The next video is from Friday protest in the center of Bratislava, where Canadian journalist Tom Nicholson took stage. Tom is the author of the book based on the gorila files which uncovers corruption scandals and the background of political games in Slovakia.

His book was banned from release by a court in Bratislava. Judge Bronislav Kral issued a preliminary measure according to which Nicholson can not publish in any way and he was requested to give in his manuscript. All this because of actions of one of the actors of the files and also the co-owner of Penta J. Hascak. The judge argumented that the protection of privacy of one person is above the right for free speech and information for public. This decision stirred up the public, mainly after Nicholson said that the judge didn't see nor read the manuscript.

Tom Nicholson lives and workd in Slovakia since 90's. As an investigative journalist he acquired the Gorila file (allegedly from an agent of the slovak secret service who was a part of the operation). With this file, as an evidence of corruption of unprecedented dimensions, he tried to get the police, prosecution and even the prime minister but no one did anything. He tried to offer the story to the media in Slovakia but was turned by everyone probably because of fear. Tom Nicholson also confirmed that he was blackmailed and threatened in connection with his investigation.

Sunday, 12th of February there was part of this book published in SME magazine. They (SME) are counting on the fact the the first chapter of the book doesn't mention any people who could object to their privacy being violated.

A lot of people bought the magazine and public in Slovakia is waiting for the full book.
