Fridge of the Future
In times of massive energy waste and climate changing, people are interested to realign to new ideas of ordinary technologies. Industrial Design is therefore not only trying to consider different and modern looks of products, but also keep a “green” consciousness alive. A fridge with zero energy and a substantial design could mark a further step towards changing our habits and protect the world.
Since its invention in the 1930’s refrigerators did not really experience a lot of new designs. But last year, the Russian designer Yuri Dmitriev created a new era of refrigerators for Electrolux made of a special gel-like substance that suspends food.
The so called “Bio Refrigerator” works without a motor or other conventional technology and “bio robots” keep the food cool and fresh.
This Future Refrigerator is mounted on the wall in any way people prefer and enables to use 90% of its space. You only need to put any food into the biopolymer gel. The gel has got no smell, is not sticky and does not need any protection in form of a door. Moreover, the Bio Refrigerator needs no energy for its cooling, only a little control pad is provided by energy.
Despite the whole idea sounds very sci-fi, Dmitriev does not explain in detail how this technique is working. Anyway, the idea is great and seems to commerce a new way of rethinking old and traditional technologies.
